Consider the following scenario:
It’s 11p.m. on a weekend night. A 12-year-old
girl has an argument with her mother in their single-parent
home.
Things do not go well and have escalated to the point where
the 12-year-old girl leaves the home.
Where will she go? What will she do?
There are few good choices for a youth in distress. Many
paths may lead to situations that would put the child at
extreme risk.
Now imagine for a moment that this is your
daughter. Wouldn’t
you like her to have a choice that leads to safety and reconciliation?
Of course you would, and so do we.
Seton Youth Shelters provides a safe haven, counseling,
and outreach services, 24 hours a day, without charge, to
assist youth in crisis throughout Hampton Roads, with the
goal of reuniting families.
Each year, we help over 15,000 youths, from age 4 to 21,
through our shelter, counseling, street outreach, in-school,
and Mentoring Children of Prisoners programs (ages served
are dependent upon program). Shelter is provided for youth
ages 9-18, where they stay an average of 20 days and receive
daily counseling as well as food, clothing, medical assistance
and much needed support.
Our services are provided without charge for up to 22 at-risk
youth at our two shelters in Virginia Beach. Our internal
cost for this service is approximately $125 per youth, per
day, but we are able to provide these serves without charge
because of the kindness and generosity of our community.
The consequences for the runaway child may
well be quite dire, but Seton Youth Shelters provides a
light to a child
in an otherwise dark time. Actual children in difficult situations
have found themselves at Seton Youth Shelters and have found
positive outcomes and tools to more effectively handle life’s
challenges.
Would you consider becoming part of this solution?
We know that there are many worthy causes competing for
your charitable dollars. We would ask you to consider Seton
Youth Shelters as a recipient during our Annual Fund Campaign.
Frankly, without the support of time and treasure, these
programs cannot exist.
Your donation to the Annual Fund will be used to help Seton
Youth Shelters continue to provide services for at risk youth
and their families without charge.
Here are some specific
examples of how your gift can help:
$2,500 will cover the average cost of one
child’s
stay in our shelter
$1,000 makes youth and family counseling available for
25 clients
$500 helps 23 at-risk students learn skills
to cope with life’s challenges
$250 provides six months of snacks for our Street Outreach
programs, touching 5,000 children in lower income neighborhoods
$125 will cover the internal cost for one child for one
night in our shelter

Last year’s Annual Fund Campaign brought in a total
of $104,192 – and we’d like to thank the 146
donors who made this possible! It is through your generosity
that we have been able to help so many at risk youth in crisis,
so that they did not have to face life’s challenges
alone.
