History

HYPE (formerly Seton Youth Ambassadors) was founded in September 1998 and two Youth Ambassadors serve as voting members of our Board of Directors. HYPE has participated annually in the Cardboard Boat Regatta, decorating both shelters for the holidays, and have assisted in constructing the walkway from St Aidan’s parking lot to the Girls’ Shelter.

HYPE responds to requests from the community to assist in their projects and speak on behalf of Seton Youth Shelters. HYPE sponsors activities with the residents of the shelters and serves as an outreach contact in the schools they attend. Two members of HYPE are awarded the Donna Rowe Memorial Scholarship to assist in meeting their educational goals.

HYPE received the 2002 and 2004 Volunteer Hampton Roads Achievement Award for the Youth Group Division, and also was the recipient of the 2003 Safe Harbor Award. HYPE provides Seton Youth Shelters with a rich history of youth/adult partnerships that help build a stronger community.
