A group of high school girls at the Seton Youth Shelters walk-a-thon.Every year Seton Youth Shelters takes in local youth who don’t possess food, clothing, or a roof over their heads; who are in such despair or crisis that the street looks better than their bed at home. Some are even considered “throwaways” because their parents just don’t want them anymore.

Since opening in 1985, Seton Youth Shelters has provided shelter and counseling services for at risk youth. Recognized as being the resource for teens in the Hampton Roads community, we work with youth to help them regain self esteem by using a positive youth development approach.

Seton Youth Shelters also operates a 24-hour crisis hotline, (757) 498-HELP, and offers individual and family counseling for adolescent girls and boys and their families, as well as parent support, outreach, and mentoring children of prisoners programs. Learn more about the free services we offer by visiting the Programs menu above.

Our crisis counseling services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, at no charge.

Some facts and figures:
Over 40 percent of the teens who are provided shelter have experienced sexual or physical abuse and/or neglect.
These youth are not in trouble with the law; they are not forced to come in for help; they want to succeed; they strive to be able to return home to their families, and they work towards future goals.
• Happily, 94 percent of youth who receive shelter and counseling services are reunited with their families and are better able to resolve conflicts which often occur as a young person deals with the issues of growing into adulthood and becoming independent.
