Seton Youth Shelters began to offer emergency shelter and counseling to runaway and homeless youth in 1985 and has continued to respond to the changing needs of youth and their families over the years. Today we provide a full continuum of services in prevention and outreach (mobile van program and teen drop in center), shelter and counseling for youth and their families, and mentoring for children with incarcerated parents.
However, the needs of our region continue to grow–older teens and young adults are the fastest growing group to face homelessness. Economic and social pressures on families, cuts in safety net programs and social service departments and overburdened school systems have disconnected many teens from critical support systems needed to transition successfully into adulthood. The consequences are tragic for young people suddenly thrust into circumstances for which they are unprepared – unemployment, homelessness, hopelessness and a cycle of failure. The impact on our region is equally troubling – lack of a prepared workforce, an increase in those needing public support, and growth in gangs and crime. Thank you for supporting our youth by supporting Seton Youth Shelters.
