Employment Opportunities
Seton Youth Shelters is searching for a Director for its Mentoring program. The MCP program targets children who have had, past or present, a family member who was incarcerated. These children, ages 4 to 18, may have a hard time adjusting to a change in the family structure or feel uneasy about explaining the situation to well-meaning peers and adults. Each child is paired with an adult who takes on the role of a friend—not a substitute parent.
The mission of Seton Youth Shelters is to provide a safe haven, counseling, outreach, and mentoring services, 24 hours per day without charge, to assist youth in crisis throughout Hampton Roads, with the goal of reuniting families.
Seton Youth Shelters (Seton) was established in 1985 as Mother Seton House, Inc., to serve vulnerable runaway and homeless girls living on the streets. In 1999, a boys' shelter was added; both programs provide shelter, counseling, and support to youth, ages 9 up to 18, in crisis. The Mentoring Children of Prisoners (MCP) program was established in 2006 to provide one-on-one positive role models for children ages 4 to 18. In 2007, Seton became the only licensed National Safe Place organization in Southeastern Virginia, providing 24-hour crisis intervention services for youth in need.
Serving all of Hampton Roads, Seton Youth Shelters provides 24-hour emergency shelter for youth ages 9 up to 18. The gender-specific shelters, one for girls and one for boys, serve runaway and homeless youth and youth in crisis within their family, school, and/or community environment. Youth may stay in the shelters for an average of 21 days, and all youth receive assessment, coordinated case management and counseling, follow-up and aftercare services for up to 6 months, and a continuum of service linkages that are individualized according to the needs and strengths of each person.
